Young Love and Its Cost

The woods darkened
the rain pours
We don't care, we just stand here on this vacant path.
Your eyes are broken with pain unspoken
Your soul dims as your joy slowly fades.
This fork in the road where we stand
Threads entwined but never to be tied,
Hopes and dreams dashed.
So much had, so much lost;
Young love and its cost.
Cruel choices make a cruel end
For all that was good.
I ask, "Was it worth it?
To give in, so to hurt?
To forgive, but never forget?"
